He Mastered Judo, But Admin Was Another Fight

Sensei Shinjiro Sasaki has been doing judo since he was six years old. Running a dojo is a different skill set entirely. Gymdesk took the desk work off his plate.
THE FOUNDER

A Life Built Around Judo

Sensei Shinjiro Sasaki immigrated from Japan and spent years navigating visas and building his name before opening his own dojo in Orlando. Eight years later, Sasaki Judo is one of the few schools in central Florida dedicated purely to judo—no crossover arts, no diluted curriculum. Alongside him, coach Eric Nellis has been training under the Sasakis for ten years, eventually earning the trust to lead daytime classes himself.

the problem

Great at Judo. Not at Desk Work.

Before Gymdesk, the dojo went through software the way some gyms go through white belts—trying one, moving to the next, never quite finding the right fit. The tools weren’t built for someone whose expertise is on the mat. Every platform that promised to help ended up demanding more effort than it saved, which is the last thing a sensei running 150 students on his own needs.

“There’s some people like me—good to teach, good to support students, but not good at desk work. Gymdesk helps people like me. Mostly everything is automatic so it helps me a lot.”

Solution

Allowing Him to Focus More on What He Knows

The switch to Gymdesk didn’t require Sensei to become someone he isn’t. Students walk in, check themselves in with a single tap, and class starts. Behind the scenes, billing and admin take care of themselves. Nothing pulls him away from the mat. Nothing demands he sit at a desk. The dojo just runs.

before & after

The Operational Shift

Without the Right Tools

  • Cycling through software that never stuck
  • Admin that followed him off the mat
  • Tools that demanded more than they delivered

With Gymdesk

  • One platform that runs without being managed
  • Check-in takes one tap—students do it themselves
  • Billing runs automatically, every month
THE MISSION

Growing Judo. One Student at a Time.

Sensei Sasaki has been doing judo since he was six years old and has never stopped. He didn’t open his dojo to build a business empire—he opened it because judo is worth sharing, and because knowing every single one of his 150 students by name and face is what being a good sensei means to him. Sasaki Judo isn’t trying to be the biggest school in Orlando. It’s trying to be the best one.

“There’s some people like me—good to teach, good to support students, but not good at desk work. Gymdesk helps people like me. Mostly everything is automatic so it helps me a lot.”

“I have 150 students, sensei is only one. If I cannot remember their face and their name, it’s not good sensei. That’s how I feel.”
