Frequently Asked Questions

I'm outside the US—which processors work for me?

Stripe is global. Square covers the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, Ireland, Japan, and Spain. Authorize.net works in the US, Canada, and Australia. GoCardless covers 27+ European countries. Ezypay handles Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore. Gymdesk Payments is US-only for now.

Can I run more than one processor at the same time?

Yes, if you have multiple locations. Each location can use its own processor—for example, Gymdesk Payments at your US flagship and GoCardless at your UK location. Single-location gyms run one processor at a time.

I'm on Stripe, Square, or Authorize.net—will my members have to re-enter their cards if I switch?

In most cases, no. Saved tokens transfer directly between processors—members do nothing, billing keeps running. Some processors are slow to release tokens, and a few refuse outright. Your sales rep will know your path before you commit.

Do I have to use Gymdesk Payments to use Gymdesk?

No. Gymdesk works with Stripe, Square, Authorize.net, GoCardless, and Ezypay. Gymdesk Payments is what we recommend for US gyms, but the choice is yours.

Which payment processor should I pick?

For most US gyms, Gymdesk Payments—it's built into Gymdesk, so you get one system and one support team. If you're already on Stripe, Square, or Authorize.net, all three work. UK and Europe: GoCardless. Australia or APAC: Ezypay.

How do I start with payment processing?

Sign up for a free trial and connect a processor during setup. Stripe, Square, GoCardless, and Ezypay take minutes. Authorize.net usually needs a merchant account, which takes a few business days. Gymdesk Payments includes a sales call to handle application and migration.

What is a merchant account?

A merchant account is a type of bank account that allows you to accept payments - mostly debit or credit card payments. Previously, you would need to open a merchant account if you want to process payment cards for your business, and a separate payment gateway to accept those payments online or via a card reader. Nowadays, all-in-one payment providers such as Stripe or Square allow you to process payments without opening multiple types of accounts.

Are there long-term contracts or setup fees?

No, Gymdesk offers month-to-month plans with no long-term commitments or hidden fees.

What are the payment processing fees?

Payment processing fees vary by processor and country. In the US, most card processors charge around 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. Stripe, Square, Authorize.net, GoCardless, and Ezypay set their own rates . Check their pricing pages for current numbers. Gymdesk Payments, our built-in option, has its own pricing structure. Gymdesk doesn't add fees on top of the processor's base rate.
