20–30 hours Saved per week on membership management
10 years Building Raion Dojo from 10 members to a multi-discipline gym alongside a full-time career
3 problems solved Broken billing, limited member management, and no real communication tools
The Before
Simon Flückiger has been building Raion Dojo for ten years alongside a full-time career as a product manager. He reduced his hours at work to invest more time in the gym—which meant the admin landed in whatever time was left.
His old software, common in the German-speaking Swiss market, made that harder than it needed to be:
- Monthly billing wasn't supported natively—Simon created fake billing entries to process regular payments, which members could see and didn't understand
- Member management was too limited to be useful—no sorting by membership type, no clear view of who was on what plan
- Communication tools were so restricted they barely functioned—reaching members required working around the platform entirely
He was spending 30 to 40 hours a week on membership administration. For someone running a gym in the hours a full-time career doesn't take, that math wasn't sustainable.
The After
With Gymdesk, the workarounds were gone:
- Billing runs natively—members see accurate invoices and nothing else
- Membership is sortable and visible—member breakdown by type, revenue at a glance
- Communication works—reaching the membership no longer requires a separate channel
Time on membership administration is now around 10 hours a week. The fake invoice conversation is over. The hours are back.
"If we can save hours on back office work and have a better picture of what's going on..that is very satisfying," Simon says.
What Changed
The “fake invoice” conversation Is over
Simon’s old system couldn’t process monthly payments natively. The only way to make it work was to create fake billing entries—which members could see, didn’t understand, and asked about. Gymdesk handles monthly billing as standard. Members see what they expect to see. Simon stopped having that conversation.
A real picture of the business
Simon couldn’t sort members by membership type or get a clear view of revenue on his old platform. Now he can see—at a glance—who’s on what plan and what the numbers look like. For a founder managing a gym around a full-time career, that visibility changes how decisions get made.
20–30 hours a week back
Simon ran the numbers himself: 30 to 40 hours a week on membership admin before, around 10 after. That’s not a productivity gain—it’s the margin that makes running a gym alongside a full-time career actually sustainable.
