Alina Grayeske is a purple belt with over 10 years of jiu-jitsu training and five years of gym operations experience at Electrum Performance. She co-founded OB Jiu-Jitsu Collective to bring high-level jiu-jitsu to Ocean Beach with a laid-back, community-first culture—teaching kids classes three days a week and building a women's program that now accounts for 30% of the gym's membership.

About the Gym

OB Jiu-Jitsu Collective is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy and art gallery located at 4944 Newport Ave in Ocean Beach, San Diego. Co-founded by Alina Grayeske and Andres Cervantes, the academy opened in March 2025 and is affiliated with Logos Jiu-Jitsu under Michael Liera Jr. Andres holds a black belt with over 15 years of training experience, while Alina brings a decade of jiu-jitsu and five years of gym operations experience through Electrum Performance. The academy offers gi and nogi jiu-jitsu, judo, muay thai, and kids classes in a 1,500-square-foot mat space.

The collective model brings in instructors from multiple academies, including world champion Heather Morgan for women's classes and Brazilian muay thai black belt Manuela for striking. The academy welcomes cross-training from other gyms, runs a six-week free intro program for local beginners, and hosts open mats with patio barbecues. The walls double as a gallery featuring five artists from the Ocean Beach and Point Loma area.

Summary

OB Jiu-Jitsu Collective sits one block from the beach on Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach, San Diego—a 3,800-square-foot former theater that co-founders Alina Grayeske and Andres Cervantes converted into a jiu-jitsu academy and art gallery in just 53 days. Alina spotted the "for rent" sign while having breakfast across the street, signed the lease five days later, and opened on March 31st with mats that arrived three days before their first open mat. Both founders still work full-time jobs—this is a passion project that hit 100 members in its first year.

The video follows Alina through the gym's programs—Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo, muay thai, kids classes, and a free Sunday women's session led by world champion Heather Morgan and open to any academy. It captures the collective model at work: instructors from different academies teaching under one roof, local art lining the walls, and a community where 30 of the 100-plus members are women. Alina shares how she designed the space to feel authentic to Ocean Beach—laid-back, inviting, and built around the neighborhood.
